BARBIE <3 COACHELLA
Coming off the cultural phenomenon of the Barbie movie, the challenge was keeping Barbie relevant after the moment had passed.
We needed to deepen affinity with adult Gen Z, moving Barbie beyond entertainment and the toy aisle into a lifestyle brand they wanted to engage with in culture. Coachella became a launchpad to shift perception, spark conversation, and prove Barbie's relevance with adult audiences and future brand partners.
INSIGHT
Gen Z is unapologetically creating unconventional trends and bringing their “messy” into fashion and life, reshaping culture and aspiration on their own terms.
They don't want to be told who to be. They want the freedom to make it their own.
OPPORTUNITY
Barbie has always been a carefully curated tastemaker, trendsetter, culture leader, and fashion icon.
The opportunity was to evolve that role for a generation that wasn't interested in perfectly curated.
Instead of asking Gen Z to fit into Barbie's world, we could let them bring a little mess into hers.
Loosen up Barbie. Invite people to participate, personalize, and play. Expand what it means to be Barbie without losing what has always made her iconic.
YOU CAN BE ANY BARBIE
A play on Barbie's iconic “You Can Be Anything” ethos, You Can Be Any Barbie expanded that promise to include the imperfect, unexpected and a little messy.
You don't have to be like Barbie. Barbie can be like you.
Instead of presenting one perfect version of an icon, we created a world where everyone could find their own way to be Barbie.

THE EXPERIENCE
The experience began with a bold pink mirrored exterior, creating a destination where guests could literally see themselves reflected in Barbie while also serving as a premium content-capture moment. The environment was intentionally designed for discovery, participation and social sharing.
Inside, a persona gallery introduced a more self-aware Barbie, from Bed Rot Barbie to Glitter Everywhere Barbie, taking cues from the humor, memes and imperfect versions of Barbie already living in culture.
A personalized charm bar allowed guests to define their own Barbie persona through a one-of-one wearable keepsake, while photo moments, a fishbowl mirror, a DJ booth, and other details turned the space into a world to explore, personalize, and share.
CULTURAL AMPLIFICATION
The idea extended beyond the booth through talent who already embodied their own distinct versions of Barbie.
Olandria Carthen, aka Bama Barbie, became the cultural anchor of the creator strategy and the face of You Can Be Any Barbie on-site. She appeared in the Barbie Box and persona gallery while anchoring press and creator storytelling around the experience.
Paris Hilton, another personality long synonymous with the Barbie aesthetic, brought her own iconic version of Barbie to the experience, creating another cultural moment that extended into lifestyle and celebrity media beyond the festival.
Across social, a mix of creator storytelling, memes, polished content and lo-fi cultural reactions carried the idea beyond Coachella, connecting the physical experience with how fans were already talking about Barbie online.
